I purchased the satin version so I can only speak for that model. While the blade loading is not difficult it is different than most razors. A dry or damp towel or wash cloth can aid you in preventing cuts while loading/unloading. I recommend that setup while adjusting the razor's settings also. Shaving should be relaxing not a panicked trip to the ER. I tend to go to one less than the maximum setting on any adjustable for a first shave. It provides me with two experiences when I shave again at the highest setting. Good feedback, nicely weighted and easy to achieve just enough pressure to maintain contact. Dialing down a few notches I proceeded to shave across the grain and was pleasantly surprised at it's performance. I can't speak for the other models but the satin showed a nice gliding ability while using different soaps. Dialed down again and no issues with against the grain. The quality, fit and finish are very nice. Is this going to solve problems that new users have with their current razor? No, and barring physical damage or defect to a razor, no other razor is going to fix the need to learn good technique. Ever wondered how Geo goes from razor to razor without being a bloodied mess? Technique, take your time, learn it and it will serve you well. People do no one a favor when they hop around from razor to razor when they haven't mastered technique first. They don't help when they mention that they only cut themselves once and/or got weepers. You shouldn't be cutting yourself at all. This Merkur Futur should last a long time and may end up being passed down someday. Great price and a quality razor.

Purchased this during the Memorial Day weekend sale. Received the chrome version from Shave Nation May 31. First shave with a Personna blue a blade I know well. Razor set at 3.5, Proraso sensitive pre shave and Proraso shave cream ending with Proraso shave balm. First pass wtg took it slow , definitely could feel the blade and hear it working noticeably closer shave on first pass then any other razor I have. 2nd pass dial down to 2 atg with under nose cleanup. Final cleanup pass at 1. Wow I thought this is some razor. Next shave was 3 days later but using my favorite Gillette 7 o’clock black Super Platinum razor set to 4 then 2.5 This provided an outstanding 2 pass + cleanup shave. The weight of this razor is heavier than any razor I have which provides the perfect weight and balance. Let the weight of the razor work for you, no added pressure. No razor burn or irritation. No point during the shave did I feel the handle to be slippery.
Just take it slow and pay attention during the shave. The build quality and chrome finish of this razor is first rate. Geofatboys’ videos are extremely helpful in guiding one how to best use this razor, a must view! Highly recommended!

This razor shaved really good and the handle felt great in the hand with the rubber on it. It’s definitely on the more aggressive side, but it shapes really really well and plow through my beard without a problem even if it’s warm it’s still shaved really really good and I like it that it’s real heavy, I’m gonna give it a try again. See how it does but it shaved really really good. If you have a really rough beard like me like I would definitely recommend this razor for you.

This is my 2nd Futur (10+ years on first one) I opted for the chrome & rubber coated grip version. Definitely a nice upgrade to the already near perfect razor. I shave wide open 5 or 6 w/ feathers. Best shave imo. Shipped quick, arrived well packaged. Highly recommend
