Merkur Travel Safety Razor Open Comb

I had one of these that was an antique from Germany. It was my favorite, but couldn't fit modern razor blades. It can get into tight places and shave close but doesn't cut you up. The only problem this copied from the original is that if you screw it together too tightly, it is almost impossible to take apart by hand. Make sure you screw the lower half of the handle on LAST, or else you can twist the assembled handle with too much force and get it stuck. Then when you try to twist it back, the lower part just unscrews itself and the top is stuck in the head.

If they make any more, I suggest reversing the threads on the bottom.

Great service! The razor is small, the case is good, and head gives a good (not overly aggressive) shave. I use it every time I travel and I even use the head with another (longer) handle I had as a daily shaver. Great value! What shall I try next?

I received this razor as a gift from a close friend. What a great little razor! First, it is tremendously portable. Everything fits into a nifty little leather pouch that takes up hardly any room at all. It is extremely light, but the open comb offsets the weight and this little razor delivers a tremendous shave. I popped a Gillette 7:00 Yellow blade into it and did a three pass shave, WTG, XTG and AGT. The shave was the equal to any of my full size razors. I'm looking forward to taking this little power house on all of my future trips. Merkur knocked it out of the park with this one! 12/18/2013

I bought this razor for a deployment to Afghanistan and it is the first dual edge I have ever used. So far it has produces great shaves. At first I thought I would not like the small handle as I have large hands but it just fits and feels comfortable in my hand. The knurling on the handle makes for a very secure feeling grip even when your hands are wet. When it is collapsed down the short part of the handle slides into the longer part making for a more compact razor. This however makes the razor a little heavier at the head, Also the case is about the width of two heads making it very compact and easy to store. The case has room for several blades making it a nice choice for extended stays. 05/20/2013
