The Merkur 39C 2 Piece Slant Bar Razor is designed and recommended for the more experienced DE shaver. It is a Two-Piece Razor. Affectionately called the Sledge Hammer because of its longer handle and hefty design.
Features a slanted or skewed head design which exposes more of the blade at one end, making it quite similar to the cutting angle of a straight razor.
This razor has a reputation for being more aggressive than many others.
It is known to slice through whiskers like a hot knife through butter.

Geofatboy's AGGGRESSION RATING™ FOR THE 39C IS (7) ON A SCALE OF 1-10 with 10 Being the most aggressive. *Note: DE Blade used with the razor can increase or decrease the aggressiveness of the shave. YMMV (your mileage may vary)

The Sledge Hammer! Fastest way to a close shave.

Greetings Shave Nation,
This is my first review after 3 years of wet shaving. Recently bought the Merkur 39C also known as the Sledge Hammer.
I do enjoy a close shave, I also like a shave that leaves my face without irritation. The 39C does both easily.
I have shaven with 3 days of growth and this razor has done the job easier than any of the other razors I have. Before using the 39C I was shaving with the well known Muhle 41. The 39C I find slices through beard growth faster and with less effort. The blade I have been using is the Accuthrive Prep Blade.The 41 leaves me with just the smallest margin closer shave.
If any of my fellow wet shavers are on the fence about the 39C I say purchase and you won’t regret.
The only change that would make this razor better would be a little more grip.

The Sledgehammer is a Heavy Hitter

My daughter asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and after seeing a couple of Geo's reviews on the Sledgehammer, I went to the Shave Nation website and showed her the 39C. It was one of my gifts from her, she bought it here, and it has been amazing!
The Sledgehammer, my first razor from Merkur, is without a doubt the best razor I have used!
For me the 39C shaves as close as the R41, and is equally as aggressive, with no irritation regardless of what blade I have used. Since my first shave Christmas morning, I have used no other razor on my face or head.
I think the weight of the 39C is key. The pressure from its heft is does the work during the stroke. I know now why people rave about a heavy razor.

Aggressive? Yes and No

I wouldn't use the word aggressive. I'd call it "effective and efficient". It cuts the whiskers close but doesn't seem to cut the skin unless you really get crazy with technique. I think it's the easiest razor to use and I don't have to play around with settings like on an adjustable. This and also the Semi-Slant from Parker are becoming my favorites. I'm ordering another one of these as a spare. Don't be afraid of the angry look of this razor. Its actually pretty friendly.

Best Razor

Amazing, I finally reached the Holy Grail of shaving “Merkur 39c Slant Razor. I also own the Merkur Futur, but even this is going to be getting an early retirement to my storage cabinet, So, if you need a razor that is just a bit aggressive this is the one.
