NOTE: Due to pressure from European customers to reduce plastic use for environmental considerations, Taylor initially decided not to include the plastic seal in shave cream tubs. However, after thousands of requests they reinstated it. This means that for a while some batches will have the lid seal and some will not.

As for the cream's consistency, it varies between scents and batches.

Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Creams 150g jars use a hot pour method, are sold by weight, and the jars may or may not have a plastic seal. It is quite normal for the contents to vary in consistency from batch to batch. They may be more solid, shift, lean to one side, or have irregular cavities when you open them. Don’t be alarmed, TOBS ensures this is completely normal. This should not be considered a flaw and does not affect the performance of the cream. "Lather up and Get Your Shave On!"

TOBS Royal Forest - Great in many ways

Awesome scent! I started with the Taylor of Old Bond Street sample set offered by Shave Nation. Which is a great place to start if you want to explore. Royal Forest wound up at the top of my list in terms of the scent. Plus, the lather is so creamy. I have been using TOBS sandalwood shave soap for several years and love it. The TOBS shave cream seems to take things to another level. I highly recommend this for its scent, creamy feel and excellent shave. You will not be disappointed.

TOBS Royal Forest Shaving Cream

TOBS Royal Forest... the best scent!

I love the scent!! Lathers up very fast. Using the amount about the size of a dime gives more than enough lather for 2 passes. I like to pair the shave cream with its same-scented aftershave (or balm). The balm does not like my skin (see separate review). Saving my nickels and dimes to try the aftershave ($45 for 50ml?? - I measured out 50ml... wtf). I'll probably love the aftershave and be hooked.

TOBS Royal Forest Shave Cream - Savor the Scent!

Piney and earthy with a touch of citrus, TOBS Royal Forest Shave Cream has a wonderful, complex scent, like the woods themselves. The lather is smooth and dense. A few swirls of the brush and a bit more water than usual whipped up (in a separate bowl) produced more than enough lather for several passes with some left over.
With no compatible pre-shave (that I am aware of), I experienced greater-than-usual irritation (as determined by the alum block) vs. using a pre-shave made to work with my usual shaving products. The result for me: a 5-star product but a 4-star shave. Hint: TOBS should consider supporting its superb shaving cream preferably with a glycerin-based pre-shave product in the same great scent. It could make all the difference.
I also purchased TOBS Royal Forest After Shave Balm, reviewed separately.
Considerably more expensive than my usual shaving cream, I'll save this one for special occasions. Nevertheless, spending some extra time in the Royal Forest is certainly time well-spent!
