I wanted to try a boar bristle brush and this had good reviews. It's definitely a good quality brush and it's stylish. Handle feels nice. On the very first use I was a little concerned with how many bristles I lost but it looks like that's a break-in process thing, because it only happened on that first use and since then the bristles are all holding nice and tight. The boar's hair DEFINITELY behaves differently than badger. Like all the descriptions say, it's a lot stiffer and not nearly as soft. Whether or not you like that is a matter of personal preference, but if you do, I can say this is a very well made brush. Out of the package I noticed no odor at all. When I wet it, that's when I noticed the strong odor people talk about...but the odor seemed to be completely overpowered by the scent of my shaving cream, so personally I don't feel any need to do something special to remove that odor. I'll continue to use my badger hair brush the majority of the time but I'll use this when I feel my face could use a little exfoliating/massage or when I'm in the mood to use shaving soap instead of shaving cream, because the stiffer bristles are definitely better and lathering the soap.
