Merkur Progress Adjustable Safety Razor Long Handle

I'm new to shaving with a safety razor and double-edge razor blades. I initially started out with a Maxwell June razor. Geo told me he thought I'd like a safety razor better and he was right.

I like being able to adjust the gap on this razor. I've settled on using 3.5, 2.75, and then 2 when I shave. I typically go about 3.5 days between shaves, so I have quite a bit of stubble to remove. Having an adjustable razor allows me to use a larger gap for the initial pass and then lower the gap on subsequent passes when a larger gap would be too aggressive.

I initially had my heart set on a Rockwell adjustable razor, but I read a comment on a review about the razor and the commenter said the razor wasn't worth the premium price. I agreed and that's why I ended up purchasing the Merkur Progress.

I'm glad I purchased the long handle version. I don't think it's long enough, so I would have really been disappointed had I purchased the regular handle version.

Have used mild razors with sharp Personna Med Prep blades and agressive razors with less agressive blades. This precise razor has some heft with the long handle so it's weight is all that is needed.
This cuts on 1 all the way to five changing blade exposure. Using a sharp Personna Med Prep I can do a mild shave at 1 1/2 or you can start shaving down at 3 and finish with 1 on last pass.
Perfect chrome finish has zero drag, feels great with head easily maneuvering under nose.

I’ve used and appreciated this razor for years. The only criticism I have is that it’s so hard for me to see the numbers on the ring and the little guide dot on the top cap and the handle. I discovered,however, that you don’t need to read the numbers if you shave every day or every other day. Just load your blade and turn the bottom knob until it stops. That’s all. Go ahead and shave.

This adjustable razor gives me a baby smooth shave every time. The beauty of this razor is you can dial it in according to the thickness of your beard for a more consistent and efficient shave. Beautiful adjustable. The fit and finish are very good. The shave is the most efficient razor I have used. This is now my everyday razor.
