NEW! Just Arrived AT SHAVE NATION *Limited Supply Available*
Do you absolutely love your 34C but wish the handle was a bit longer?
The MERKUR 34 INOX XL is the extended version of the 34 “HD,” short for Heavy Duty. The 34 model earned this nickname in the 1980s due to its weight. The 34 INOX XL, crafted from satin-finished stainless steel, is also sophisticated: Few other safety razors can match the smooth and gentle shave this classic delivers.
A safety razor with a closed comb is the all-around choice for a classic wet shave. You’ll intuitively find the best angle for the razor and achieve perfect results right away. The wide blade gap allows soap and hair to drain away, ensuring thorough cleaning and a hygienic shave. The long XL version offers a secure grip, even for larger hands and soap laden fingers. You can drop this razor right into your palm where it sits comfortably and you can spin it easily from side to side while shaving.

My new Merkur

I have been a shaver for almost 70 years now. Back in the 50’s a razor was a razor, some good some bad and blades rusted when you finished shaving.
Today there are too many makers and manufacturers to choose from. I admit now I do suffer from ROCD(Razor Obsessive Collection Disorder). I own over 50 different makes and models. Merkur was my original choice in the 1980’s and I have at least 11 of this make. Most are made of Zamak and or plated brass and highly chromed. I later opted for the Merkur 2000 Vision butterfly barn door purchased in 2000 when they were introduced. That model was disc. in abt 2013 due to many reports of broken parts and difficulty in maintenance!
I never leave a blade in any razor and always clean and dry all my razors daily and oil critical parts like 5mm screw threads and “barn door” hinges. The last 26 years with my Vision has never failed and no broken parts! Hogwash for those that cuss this model. Their Futur Adjustable as well as the Mergress(Progress) continuous adjustables also serve me well. My old standby is their 37G Gold slant with short handle for travel.
This new Merkur 34 INOX SS XL Satin long handle(long name for a long handle razor) has a different blade mounting system using long rectangular mounting rails instead of “iffy” locating pins. This is a 2 piece razor with 1/2 thread stainless cap locking stud. This 1/2 thread is common with the Gem Style razors with square punched hole blades. The caution mentioned in Merkur’s box states to oil this thread occasionally. I have heeded this caveat with many of my razors and use caution threading handles onto these special studs,no issue. I used a new Astra Superior Platinum blade for my first shave. The feed back from this is amazing and audibly tells you the blade is working just like my beloved Vision 2000. My only issue is minor in that this new 34INOX with 14mm dia. handle makes it difficult to find any type of round or inkwell type razor stand except Merkur’s proprietary stand at $40 USD! i like this razor and Shave Nation’s price is $149.99 no tax no shipping. Amazon has it for $10 plus 7% tax adding abt $11 or about the cost of 100 Astra Superion Platinum blades. Enjoy this great razor and thanks George.
