Muhle Rocca R96 Black Closed Comb Stainless Steel Safety Razor

I’ve been shaving my head for 15 years using clippers and cartridge razor. Since switching to DE razors 3 years, I always look forward to my shaving routine. Muhle R96 is a great medium aggressive DE razor. During my first shave, I noticed some blade feel. I thinks it’s comparable to my Yates 921-H and the shave is efficient after 2.5 passes (WTG & ATG) plus some minor touch up. I was initially worried that the bottom plate didn’t have any slots to clear soap residue and stubble; however, performed really well and it didn’t affect my shave at all. I like the size and heft of the handle which makes it easy for me to hold and manoeuvre the razor for both head and face shaving (5 days of growth). The grip on the handle is good enough that I felt secure using it while shaving the back of my head. It’s not heavily knurled but incorporates small geometric designs all around the main portion of the handle to prevent my fingers from slipping. I feel the weight of the razor is perfect and allows me to simply glide the razor on my head without putting pressure. This also helps prevents accidental nicks and cuts. Please be aware that there’s slight blade overhang on the sides. It’s noticeable when you’re screwing the handle onto the base plate. It shouldn’t be an issue as long you’re careful when shaving under your nose or around the ears when head shaving. I did get one tiny cut behind my ear but that was due to driver error. I used Astra platinum blade and the razor performed well. I will try personna blade on my next shave and see how it goes. This German razor has a minimalist design with clean lines, satin finish and black coating for the handle. It’s really a great looking razor! I have used the razor several times now and find that I get a good shave with two passes. It is slightly more aggressive than my R89 but by being careful not to press on the razor and let it do the work, I found the result was less irritation than I had been getting. The razor is very well made and shaves very good, service from Shave Nations is first rate, and I ordered more today.

Fine German craftsmanship no surprise. Performed very nicely like a fine sports car. ! Matter of fact best shave Ive ever had with the factory supplied blade.

Good looking stylish razor. My fist few shaves I found to be a little to aggressive for me. After trying several different blades, I found what works for me . Now its mild and efficient. I can get a wonderfully smooth shave. The fresh feeling of a smooth shave is a great way to start with the day.
