Merkur 38C 38B Flat Bar Safety Razor

So I started shaving with a Safety Razor about 12 years ago with the Merkur 34C which at the time seemed to be what most new shavers to Safety razors were doing it and it worked great, baby bottom smooth everytime! Then I became addicted and moved on to adjustables, slant razors, barn doors, you name it. I had settled on adjustables for a long time and then went on a trip just a while back and pulled out my old 34C and again one of the closest shaves I ever get. But after using other razors I wanted the longer heavier handle than what the 34C was. Hence purchasing the 38C, same head as the 34C but longer and heavier. In my hands it was perfect and I have been using now for a few weeks and have to say this will be my main goto razor from now on. Even with more aggressive razors like slants and adjustables I still do not get as close of a shave as I do with my 38C paired with a Gillette Platinum blade. Just love it!

Because of some medication I am on, my hands occasionally tremble. I always research things to death, before making a purchase! This is known as a " Mild " razor, I am always hesitant on my first shave. Reviews I had seen, claimed this was equivalent to the Muhle R89 Grande, so I loaded this new Merkur up with the same blade as used in the other, and came out of the bathroom this morning with a nice clean smooth face, with no nics or scratches! Glad to add this to my collection!

This razor is very smooth to use. The razor positions the blade so that it is not aggressive at all. You will need to make multiple passes to make a silky smooth finish to your shave but the plus is that there will likely be no irritation, nicks or cuts. I've used an Edwin Jagger for many years and wanted to try something from Merkur. The 38c is better for beginners and is less aggressive that the Edwin Jagger. Both are good razors, but the Merkur would definitely be easier for someone new to wet shaving. In the future I may pick up an adjustable Merkur to allow for a more personal, fine-tuned shave.

Love the 38C. I am using all kinds of blades and get a great result most times. Easy to manage, clean. Not hard getting under the nose. Definitely recommend it.
