Tabac Shaving Soap in Sturdy Ceramic Bowl

Tabac soap is a wet-shaving standard. It is the first shaving soap I purchased alongside a DE many years ago. I will always have that beautiful white glass container in my bathroom. It is simply a fantastic performer and will always guarantee a decent shave. Lathers and cushions well with both DE and straight. Over the years I have helped several friends and colleagues get a start with wet shaving accoutrements. Gifting the glass container of Tabac soap always feels like the standard induction to the shave fraternity to me. I feel one can’t pick a better first soap to see how much better classic wet shaving beats a canned cream or gel. I also think Tabac is a good baseline when getting started. As it’s easy to make it perform, one can focus on technique. A lot of print exists on forums about Tabac’s fragrance as well as debate over shave soap ingredients. I find the soap and the aftershave/EDC offer a clean, soapy, mildly powdery but masculine scent. I’ve seen reviews where persons say it “smells like a 70s Disco.” I find the Tabac products work well with my skin. I’ve only received positive compliments from my spouse and others. When I first discovered Tabac in my mid 30s, I questioned German coworkers about it. They were incredulous that I liked it, and I got the impression it was a Dad product / fragrance. Fast forward to my early 50s and Tabac has worked well for me all these years. Some days I really crave the lift I get when shaving with the soap and later wearing the fragrance. It’s a very happy, start the day for me. I like the soap and fragrance for a morning shave. I believe one reason Tabac gives a slick cushiony shave par excellence is that tallow (derived from animal fats) is a primary ingredient. I do respect those that have sought to eliminate their consumption of animal products, but also wonder the environmental impact of sourcing various oils from around the globe to make similar performing vegan soaps. It is great there are a variety of products available so the individual can decide what fits their desire. I think Tabac soap is one of my pillars of wet shaving and will always keep in my rotation.

Great fragrance and smooth shave.

As always, Shave Nation provided great service and fast shipment. Was always wondering why so many folks like Tabac, so finally gave it a try. For me, a nice unique, citrusy scent and found out that it’s a hard soap, which I also like. The after shave (called a lotion, who knows why. :j. ). Is a great complement. Unlike most other soaps, it comes in a glass (porcelain) jar with a lid that sits, but does not screw on top, which from an aesthetic and marketing perspective is nice, but does require extra care handling. My better half also likes it!

I haven’t used any other soap since getting this. It provides great slickness and protection, leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized, and smells wonderful. The bergamot/tobacco/vanilla combination is pleasant and not overpowering. I really like the porcelain container it comes in as well.
